Planmeca Romexis® 7 software optimises dental workflows with integrated AI

Press release Mar 26, 2025

Planmeca Romexis® is the leading software platform for dentistry, supporting all types of dental imaging from 2D and 3D to CAD/CAM. It offers a comprehensive set of tools for diagnosis, analysis, and treatment planning. By making all clinical imaging data available in a single, easy-to-use system, Romexis enables smooth daily workflows in dental practices.

Building on the redesigned user interface introduced in Romexis 6, Planmeca Romexis® 7 elevates usability to the next level by integrating AI capabilities directly into the software, making AI-powered tools accessible to all users as a standard feature. The tools are designed to complement the expertise of dental professionals, making patient assessments and treatment planning smoother and more efficient.

The integrated AI of Romexis 7 acts as a smart assistant, automatically handling time-consuming tasks while unlocking new possibilities in dental treatment planning. For instance, the AI in Romexis 7 automatically recognises and segments major oral anatomies and detects the mandibular nerve in CBCT images. The anatomies are presented as surface models in distinct colours for easy visualisation and optimised treatment planning.

Romexis 7 also introduces completely new AI features, including the automatic tooth numbering of periapical and bitewing X-rays. This reduces clicks and automates routine tasks, such as rotating intraoral X-rays. It also allows users to filter images based on tooth presence, organise intraoral X-ray studies, and navigate dental images by tooth number.

In addition, Romexis 7 supports users at various stages of their workflows by automating repetitive tasks. The software intelligently proposes implant treatment plans, considering the adjacent teeth and their roots, maxilla and mandible bone, mandibular nerve, and the restoration. For implant guide design, Romexis 7 automatically fuses digital impressions and CBCT, detecting the area for the surgical guide based on gingival line detection. New AI-powered tools also enable automatic 3D cephalometric analyses through automatic landmark detection. In addition, Romexis can automatically present views of the temporomandibular joints through automatic condyle detection.

Furthermore, Romexis 7 introduces a language model-based smart chat to help users maximise the software’s potential. This virtual assistant provides concise answers to day-to-day software operations using the Romexis manual as source content.

"By integrating AI capabilities directly into our Romexis platform, we are empowering dental professionals to work more efficiently and focus on what truly matters – providing exceptional patient care. Romexis 7 is a unique software that takes dental imaging tools to the next level,” says Helianna Puhlin-Nurminen, Vice President for Digital Imaging and Applications at Planmeca.

Other Romexis highlights at IDS include the Romexis® VR solution, introduced in the latest software release. Romexis VR is an invaluable tool for cases requiring a comprehensive understanding of patient morphology and anatomical relations, allowing dental professionals to view and visualise 3D data in true three dimensions. The Romexis VR application also enables visualising implant planning in virtual reality, using extensive implant libraries from over 130 manufacturers.

Visit Planmeca booth A30–C39 in Hall 1 at IDS 2025 to discover Romexis 7 and experience treatment planning in virtual reality.
